Let’s just keep this review simple. In The Dark fell short of my expectations but is good enough to keep me up all night trying to get to the bottom of it.

Pros:

• engrossing story
• Challow, the guy’s gives a refreshing dose of humor whenever he appears
• realistic approach to investigations(in real life finding clues, suspects and establishing timelines are messy)

Cons:

• Multiple POVs can take a little time in adjusting
• Lots of missing sentences(at least that’s the case for my e-copy of the ARC)
• a little all over the place, trying to bundle in the officers’ private lives and the investigation. But with a bit of polishing this can be a good combination.

The detectives deal with two cases in this story , but are they linked in some way or not? Throughout the book we’re tugged left and right as a suspect is found and is later cleared. Who really did it? Is anyone telling the truth? All these questions and intrigue kept me awake well past sunrise. Although, I wasn’t a big fan about the gross acts some of the characters did and some parts niggled me up the wrong way. In The Dark is entertaining but could do with some more editing.

Is it the job that does it or is that sort of person attracted to the job in the first place?

Profanity – Yes, plenty of it

Recommended for: Readers looking for some shock factor and lots of twists.
