Girl With A Gun was an okay story set in Wild West, it’s more suited to readers who like reading about Annie Oakley. Although, I can’t guarantee the accuracy of the historical elements.
The mystery was way too easy and convoluted. Easy because I sussed out the killer early on, and convoluted because it took Annie two milleniums to find the culprit and only after jumping to conclusions each step of the way(you could say that it’s realistic because you’re supposed to suspect anyone with possible means and proceed to eliminate them until you end up with your killer but did she need to voice them out??)
The romance, ugh, insta-romance, anyone? Woman went from meeting, falling in love, bedding and being proposed to HELLA FAST.
The pacing was too fast as well as having too much happening too soon.
Other points to mention would be the author’s implicit negative portrayal of a domestic lifestyle. Okay you’re trying to show the rising of the feminist movement and female power and all that but did you have to make domestic life seem like a bad thing? And uber boring? It’s perfectly fine to want and live that kind of life if someone chooses to, you don’t have to judge it. (I’m talking about being a housewife, not being controlled by male members and all that).
Also, Animal cruelty advocates might want to skip this book as it mentions shooting at animals, but mostly birds.
As I said, this story is more suitable for those of you who like reading anything with Annie Oakley and Frank Butler in it (with a plot loosely based on facts, leaning more on fiction).

Yikes! I had such holes for this book and that awesome cover! It doesn’t sound like such a pleasant read though! I love your anger towards the author making it seem like being domestic is terrible. I just had this conversation with someone! It’s almost like people choosing to be a housewife is a dirty word! If you’re not a part of the workforce and screaming rah rah feminism than apparently you’re doing the entire female gender a disservice! But, what if that WAS my choice? I have a right to my own choices and freedom to choose, but my choice is WRONG?! That makes no sense… (I mean, I’m a working girl myself. But, if I had the money, and the kids I wouldn’t be OPPOSED to being there for them while they grow up!) anyways… I Digress! Sorry for the rant! 😂

I’m sorry this book didn’t turn out better, at least for your sake. But some people enjoyed it, you can see what they said on NetGalley. You know, I believe no book can escape getting negative reviews. Sometimes, I find that a book that I enjoyed only had a mediocre rating on Goodreads, so reading an excerpt helps me make a better decision. I wish providing excerpts was more widespread.
