[Tag] Listicle – Top 5 Characters I Wish Hadn’t Been Killed Off

Salut, everyone! Thought I’d get on with the Top 5 Listicle post that This Is My Truth Now tagged me with. I love his prompt, which is:

Name the top 5 of your favorite fictional characters who died(that you wish hadn’t) and replace them with another character to take the bullet for them.

Rules(as written by the tag creator):

  • Create your own listicle tag, using the prompt from the person who tagged you.
  • Tag the creator of the post (not-so-modern-girl!) so that I can read all your brilliant posts and see how the joy of listicles is being spread.
  • Nominate as many people as you want!
  • Set those 5 people the subject/prompt of their listicle post!

Spoiler Alert: Obviously you don’t want to keep reading if you haven’t watched or read the following:

  • The Hunger Games – Mockingjay
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  • Downton Abbey – Season 3 Christmas Special (after episode 8)
  • Nikita – Season 1 Episode 11
  • Containment – Season 1 Episode 11

Listicle – Top 5 Characters You Wish Hadn’t Been Killed Off

(In no particular order)

  • Finnick Odair (The Hunger Games)

Finnick-Odair

Death: In the book he gets decapitated by lizard muttations(no it’s not a typo), while in the movie he gets dragged away by them and dies a quick death when the Holo explodes.

Replacement: Peeta Mellark

Reason: Admittedly, I don’t have any reason for my choice other than my personal bias towards Finnick over Peeta merely on the grounds of looks. Actually, I can’t stand Peeta’s character. Finnick’s more my type. And, oh, forgot to mention, I’ve never read the books and have only watched the first two movies. Hehehe.

  • Fred Weasley (Harry Potter)

Death: He gets killed in an explosion outside the Room of Requirement while defending the castle’s secret passages in the final great battle against Voldemort and his followers.

Replacement: Percy Weasley

Reason: The twins were a breath of fresh air amidst all the serious issues going on in the dark times. One twin without the other just felt wrong.

  • Matthew Crawley (Downton Abbey)
Matthew Crawley - Downton Abbey
Just look at that charming smile!

Death: Just after visiting his wife and their newborn son at the hospital, he dies in a car crash on his way home.

Replacement: Thomas Barrow

Reason: You know what’s more annoying than a character dying? It’s when a character didn’t have to die if the actor hadn’t wanted to leave the show!

Thom - Nikita Tv Show

Death: After confronting Alex with the truth that she’s the mole in the organization, they get in a fight and Alex accidentally shoots him with his own gun.

Replacement: Ryan Fletcher

Reason: I liked the Alex-Thom pairing, I felt they had potential and killing him was pre-mature for the character but not the story line. The writers probably didn’t want their viewers to get comfortable thinking the good characters were safe. I must have really liked this couple or why would I have stopped watching the show shortly after the episode where Thom died?

  • Katie Frank (Containment)

Death: She contracts the virus saving one of her students and ultimately dies in Jake’s arms.

Replacement: Jana Mayfield

Reason: I dropped the show like a hot iron the moment I came across a spoiler saying that she died. She and Jake were the only characters that kept me on the show and their scenes were the only ones I looked forward to in the dismal atmosphere of the show. Suffice it to say, I completely shipped them. I don’t even want to watch her death scene, I just know it’d be too sad and I won’t be able to hold back the tears. While I understand the writers needed to kill off someone to keep it real but, why Katie? Just because she outlived her use? In real life it doesn’t work that way. The world has enough bad and sad things as it is, I don’t need more of those, thank you.

Thank you, Jay, for making me re-live my favorite characters’ deaths all over again. *Gives death glare* Hope you’re happy now.
